About festivals, friendship and love of nature - shocked by the mountains of plastic waste left behind at festivals, Maxence and Tim made it their mission in the summer of 2017 to make festivals more sustainable. Maybe it was the residue of youthful exuberance or the third Kölsch - but instead of leaving it as an idea, they started to put it into practice. Almost six years later, the duo has become a team of eight glitter enthusiasts and the idea of ​​sustainable festivals has become a concrete form of a wide range of organic glitter.

And how did BIRKENSPANNER (birch moth) get its name? The peppered moth or birch moth is a moth that has a special story to tell, one shaped by environmental pollution and a random mutation. The moth's black and white pattern means it is perfectly adapted to the appearance of birch trees. With the advent of industrialization, however, factories and coal-fired power stations suddenly began to emit huge amounts of soot and smoke. The consequences were enormous: nature was covered by a dark veil, so that the birch bark became sooty in many places. The peppered moth was suddenly much more visible and therefore no longer protected from predators.

However, a random mutation increased the amount of melanin, which made the moth dark. This change proved to be very useful in a sooty environment. In fact, the black peppered moths soon became much more common in heavily industrialized areas than their black and white counterparts. Both variants still occur in nature today.

The story of the peppered moth proves that our actions and decisions have consequences. That is why the peppered moth team thinks through products down to the smallest detail, from production to disposal, and designs them in harmony with nature.
