Apostolos Patounis is the name of the man behind the legendary Patounis soaps, who is now the fifth generation to run the soap factory on Corfu. Apostolos Patounis has given up his job as an engineer so that he can devote himself fully to the family business. Despite the competition from the big soap manufacturers, the 56-year-old is not throwing in the towel, but is relying on tradition. Today, together with his wife and three employees, he produces around 30 to 40 tons of soap every year. And he does so according to the original traditional recipe, which is completely different from industrially produced green olive soaps in that no other additives are added to the actual ingredients. The respective mixture (there are various olive soaps in the soap factory) is boiled for a week in large cauldrons, after which the finished mass is put into molds. Once the mass has solidified a little, it is stamped by hand with the factory's stamp and cut into the actual soap bars. These are then stored on wooden trays for a further 4 weeks to mature (finally dry) and are then packaged.
