Functional design and sustainable production - that's what OBAstudios stands for. The declared goal is to improve everyday objects - aesthetically, ecologically and socially. They develop products that combine functional design with sustainable production.
The name OBA is Portuguese for "wow". Inspired by a summer vacation in Portugal, Birgit Ostermeier and Barbara Jenner founded the studio in June 2018, and since 2023 it has been run solely by Jenner.
Jenner's design process begins with a curious, alert look at everyday life and its challenges. At the interface of art, design and craft, she creates objects where function and aesthetics are paramount.
Dr. Barbara Jenner, artist and art historian with a doctorate, began working as an artist and designer after studying tapestry at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. A brief foray into exhibition conception and curating was followed in 2015 by the co-founding of Five & Dime, an online store for editions and multiples, with the aim of making art purchasing more accessible. Her enthusiasm for functional design led to the founding of OBAstudios a few years later, followed in 2022 by the launch of her own artistic label Atelier von Ehren, where many prototypes and small series began.
