The story of La Cerise actually begins with the childhood of Anne Hubert, the founder of the brand. Her childhood was close to nature and marked by the rhythm of the tides, the wind and the changing weather of Normandy. In her large and happy family, everything was homemade: jams, family meals, summer dresses and winter knitwear.
She remembers Sundays when she would sit at the dinner table and watch her mother use pins to mend the clothes she had sewn for her, while Anne made clothes for her dolls from scraps of fabric.
La Cerise sur le Gâteau was born out of a passion for textiles, inspired by the family's own history. The values related to sustainability and less waste are anchored in the DNA of Anne and La Cerise sur le Gâteau!
After studying textile design in Paris, Anne first became a stylist and set designer for linen, decoration magazines, boutiques... But she always wanted to design herself and create collections inspired by traditional French linen. She started with private sales in homes and then a small miracle happened because a buyer from Le Bon Marché discovered her items and offered her a pop-up... and voilà, everything else followed.
