Behind Kismet Olfactive is Californian perfumer Shabnam Tavakol, daughter of Iranian immigrants. The idea for her own fragrance studio came to life in 2015 during a father-daughter road trip across Iran. Even the name carries a story: Kismet derives from the Persian word “Qismat”, meaning fate – or what is simply meant to be.
After studying at the renowned Grasse Institute of Perfumery in the south of France and gaining professional experience in Paris and New York, Shabnam set out to create fragrances on her own terms. Her compositions blend Persian heritage with Western influences, drawing inspiration from poetry, music and personal memories. The result is a collection of expressive, unconventional unisex fragrances, crafted in small batches with a strong focus on artistry, carefully selected ingredients and individuality.
